Western Oregon University (WOU) will host the 45th annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Friday, Nov. 30. The weekend will feature other events in addition to the traditional parade, tree lighting and indoor program. All events are free and open to the public.
The tree lighting program begins at 6 p.m. with the parade, but the fun starts at 5 p.m. with both the 15 Miles West and Vibe a cappella groups serenading people as they arrive. Hot chocolate and cider will be served by the Alumni Association in front of Todd Hall. Joy bells will be played until the parade begins in front of the Monmouth Library. The tree will be lit at 6:45 p.m., featuring a performance by the WOU Brass Ensemble.
The indoor program starts at 7 p.m. in Werner University Center, featuring pictures with Santa. Arts and crafts will be in the Summit and local elementary and high school choirs will perform. WOU’s student radio station, KWOU, will also hold a live show.
On Saturday, WOU is hosting a Portland Saturday Market Excursion at 8 a.m., and a Zoolights excursion at 3 p.m. To sign up for the excursions, contact Megan Habermann at 503-838-8659 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
