Homecoming celebration

Western Oregon University kicks off its annual Homecoming celebration on October 7. The week is filled with events that appeal to students, alumni, faculty, staff, the community and more. This year’s theme is “Calling All Wolves.” The full schedule of events is below.

Monday, Oct. 7
2nd annual Fundie Run
Werner University Center (WUC) Plaza, 6 p.m.
Participants must donate at least two items of clothing. Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Inc. will collect clothing items and donating them to the Monmouth Food Bank. The run will begin at the Plaza and end in Q-Lot (next to Hamersly Library). The first participant to reach the finish line will be given the honor of helping light the “W” at the bonfire kick-off taking place after the Fundie Run.

Bonfire Kick-Off
Parking lot Q, 8 p.m.
WOU students, staff, faculty and the public are invited to kick-off Homecoming week by gathering around the fire and singing the school fight song! Enjoy appearances by the football and the WOU cheer teams. With a number of activities and games scheduled such as a pie eating contest and an egg toss competition, the kickoff will be a night to remember. Prizes will be available as well as complimentary apple cider, provided by E.Z. Orchards.

Tuesday, October 8
Paint the Wolf!
Church St. (outside WUC), 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Students will have the opportunity to make their mark on the Wolf logo displayed on Church St. Stop by anytime to help paint the wolf and bring some spirit to Homecoming 2013!

Oktoberfest
WUC Plaza, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Come celebrate Oktoberfest with food for purchase and spirited music. Hosted by the German Club, there will also be a beer garden for those aged 21 and over.

Wednesday, October 9
Wolf-Out Wednesday
The Grove, 5 to 7 p.m.
Come join the Student Activities Board at The Grove to enjoy free food, live music by Sunderland, volleyball, face painting, prizes and more. Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Inc. will host their annual car smash with Omega Delta Phi hosting a game of spoons for those in attendance.

WOU’s Got Talent!
WUC Pacific Room, 8 p.m.
WOU’s Got Talent will be a display of talent never before seen with a variety of acts such as comedy, poetry, song and dance. Make sure to arrive early for a good seat and bring a friend for the festivities. To participate in WOU’s Got Talent, contact Rebecca at rphilippi10@wou.edu.

Thursday, October 10
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus with Sunderland concert
WUC Pacific Room, doors open at 8 p.m., show starts at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets for WOU students, staff and faculty are $10, or $15 for general admission.

Friday, October 11
Hamersly Library archives exhibit
Hamersly Library, 2 to 4 p.m.
Explore collections from ONS, OCE, WOSC and WOU. Library tours will also be available.

Service Learning & Career Development résumé workshop
WUC room 119, 2 to 5 p.m.
Graduates of WOU you have access to resources of the Service Learning and Career Development Office (SLCD). Stop by the SLCD Office for work, a career change, or to touch up a resume and learn more about services.

College of Education Retirees gathering
Willamette Room, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Join fellow College of Education alumni, professors, and deans to reconnect before the College of Education reunion dinner. Sponsored by the WOU Retirees and WOU Alumni Associations.

Powderpuff Tailgater & Powderpuff Game
Turf Field, 5 p.m.
Celebrate Homecoming week at the annual Powderpuff game. The tailgater will begin at 5 p.m. with free food, chips, and drinks followed by the Powderpuff game at 6:30 p.m. Don’t miss the crowning of the Homecoming king at halftime. College of Education reunion dinner
WUC Pacific Room, 5:30 p.m.
The College of Education and the Alumni Office would like to invite COE alumni reunion dinner to reconnect with former classmates, teachers, faculty and staff of the College of Education. Tickets are $10 per person, $15 per couple, or $20 per person at the door. RSVP

Fireworks Display Show
Turf Field, 8:30 p.m.
Who doesn’t love a great fireworks show? Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy some hot chocolate as provided by Dutch Bros. while you gaze at the fireworks!

Main Street Pub in Monmouth, 9 p.m.
Young alumni looking to socialize should meet up at Main Street Pub to see former classmates and friends.

Midnight Movies
Independence Cinema, midnight
Weekend Wolfpack will be hosting Midnight Movies and selling tickets at a discounted price.

Saturday, October 13
All Wolves alumni breakfast
WUC Pacific Room, 9 – 10:30 a.m.
Join all Wolves from ONS, OCE, WOSC, and WOU to kick of a fun exciting day with alumni from all classes with a breakfast. The classes of 1963, 1988, and 2003 will be recognized as they celebrate their 50th, 25th, and 10th year reunions respectively as well as the Alumni Award of Excellence winners. Tickets are $10 per person.

Alumni baseball / softball game
Baseball field, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
All former Wolves softball and baseball players are invited back for a fun relaxed game of slow pitch softball as softball alumni take on baseball alumni. B.S. / B.A. ASL interpreting reunion
WUC Columbia Room, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
This year marks the 20th anniversary since the first class of ASL interpreters graduated from WOU. The department wishes to invite everyone back for light snacks and beverages to reunite with professors and faculty as well as catch up on this ever-growing program.

REDZONE
Lot G behind McArthur Stadium, 10:30 a.m.
The REDZONE is the official tailgating area for WOU athletics! This is the place to set up shop and tailgate with friends, family and former classmates. Parking will be first come first serve for $15. Space is extremely limited.

Wolves vs. Lumberjacks
McArthur Stadium, 1 p.m.
Support the Wolves as they take on conference opponent and rival Humboldt State at McArthur Field. Wear red and cheer the Wolves to victory. All former ONS, OCE, WOSC, and WOU football players are invited to help usher the team on the field at game time. Please call 503-838-8449 for more details. 5th Quarter / volleyball pregame BBQ
Lot G, 4:45 – 6:45 p.m.
After the football game, stick around and enjoy a BBQ by West Coast Pizza as we get ready for the volleyball game at 7 p.m. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

WOU volleyball game
New P.E. gym, 7 p.m.
After the conclusion of the 5th Qtr BBQ, everyone is encouraged to pack the stands as the
women’s volleyball team takes on power house Western Washington in a conference showdown. All former ONS, OCE, WOSC and WOU volleyball players are invited to be recognized at the game and show your support for this year’s team.Tickets are general admission and $6 for adults and $4 for seniors
